The Launch of Zambia Country Board
Africa Harvest has achieved another significant milestone by officially launching the Zambia Country Board, following the recent launch of the Kenya Country Board. The ceremony occurred on Friday, 7th June 2024, in Lusaka, Zambia, and highlighted the organization’s dedication to advancing agricultural development and sustainable farming practices in Africa.
Mrs. Sylvia Banda, Board Emeritus, Africa Harvest International, now serves as the Chairperson of the Zambia Country Board. Alongside Dr. Florence Wambugu, the Founder and CEO of Africa Harvest, Mrs. Banda welcomed new members to the Zambia Country Board, including Ms. Edwin Zulu, Mr. James M. Chawala, Mr. Nathan Chiyezhi, Mr. Emmanuel Q. Chileshe, Mr. Maurice Mawila Fututu, Mr. Daniel Mwape, Mr. Bright Chiumia, and Ms. Kim Otteby. Additionally, Ms. Chipokota Mwanawasa, a member of the International Board and the Zambia Country Board, was present at the launch.
Dr. Florence Wambugu provided a comprehensive overview of the organization’s mission and vision, emphasizing its achievements in increasing production and productivity across Africa. She also introduced the Zambia Country Board Charter, which outlines the governance structure and objectives of the new Board. Ms. Mwanawasa further elaborated on the Charter by detailing the governance and responsibilities of board members, which include roles in oversight, strategic planning, and aligning local activities with the organization’s global mission.
In her welcoming address, Ms. Sylvia Banda emphasized the significant role of the Zambia Country Board in advancing Africa Harvest’s goals within the country. She underscored the importance of local initiatives aligning with Africa Harvest’s broader objectives to enhance agricultural productivity and food security. Key steps were identified for effectively implementing the Zambia Country Board. Firstly, a meeting with the Zambian government at the State House was scheduled, aiming to align the Board activities with government priorities to promote collaboration and support. Secondly, a Board Meeting for Implementation Planning was arranged for 21st June 2024 to plan and structure the implementation activities, incorporating insights and collaborations discussed with the State House Presidential Policy Advisory and Delivery Unit.
During the official launch, Dr. Florence Wambugu expressed optimism about the positive impact of the Zambia Country Board on local agricultural efforts. The event concluded with a luncheon, providing attendees with networking opportunities and further discussions.
