Farmers turn a profit after ditching maize
Douglas Ouma, a farmer residing in Matayos constituency, Busia county, and a participant in our ongoing Project, DTC 4 Youth Jobs Creation, gained recognition in The Standard Newspaper. In 2023, he opted not to cultivate maize, a crop that had consistently failed to yield significant profits for him. Instead, he diversified his crops, focusing on groundnuts, sorghum, and millet—drought-tolerant alternatives that have proven to be lucrative in the market.
