Farmer Field Day in Kwale, Kikoneni

Africa Harvest conducted a farmer field day in Kwale, Kikoneni, under the Global EverGreening Alliance’s Restore Africa Programme.

The field day attracted key stakeholders in Kwale County, including lead farmers, programme partners, county government officials from the Department of Agriculture, off-takers, input suppliers, and value addition companies, among other key actors along the value chains.

The purpose of the field day was to expose RESAf farmers to the best farming practices and technologies that could improve production and productivity as well as enhance market access for both inputs and output.

The chief guest speaker, Mr. Roman Sherah, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for the Department of Agriculture, Livestock & Fisheries, commended the project for incorporating a livelihood component in the restoration efforts.

“I love the idea of combining restoration with improving livelihoods. As farmers engage in landscape restoration, which is a long-term investment, they can earn from the value chains being promoted by the project, like green grams and citrus trees.” Said Roman during an interview with the media.

The event also served as a valuable platform to:

• Demonstrate successful regenerative agriculture practices

• Facilitate knowledge exchange among farmers, technical teams, and stakeholders

• Connect farmers to input suppliers, aggregators, and market actors

• Showcase impact stories and foster learning across participating counties and communities

In Kwale County, Restore Africa intends to restore over 70,000 hectares, improve the livelihoods of more than 50,000 households and plant over 3.5 million trees.
