The project is being undertaken in three one-year phases comprising two elements; building sustainability of sorghum supplies for brewing and fast-tracking development of a sorghum value chain.
Phase One:    Baseline survey to map the status of sorghum production and marketing, identification of the players and their capacities, developing the value chain model, mobilization and training of farmers, and exploring how to deliver desired volumes of brewing sorghum

Phase Two: Piloting the sorghum value chain in Embu district. This will include facilitating timely land preparation for planting, access of seeds to farmer groups, continued capacity building for farmers to re-orient them to becoming business-minded, while concurrently addressing the sorghum supply sustainability issue
Phase Three: In this phase, both elements of the project converge and lessons will be taken from the Embu pilot site for replication in two other provinces with a target of producing 60,000 tonnes of sorghum grain every year. The research aspects will continue to ensure grain quality is upheld and continuously improved to meet the brewer’s standards.
